NEW ORLEANS, La. -- Junior/sophomore Brendan Gibbons (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman) kicked a 37-yard field goal in the first overtime session to give the University of Michigan football team (No. 13 AP/No. 12 USA Today Coaches) a 23-20 win over Virginia Tech (No. 17 AP/No. 11 USA Today) on Tuesday (Jan. 3) in the 78th annual Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Junior Hemingway was named MVP. It was a fun, exciting game, with a little bit of everything - turnovers, penalties, even some hipper-dipper. I loved it. Tom was texting from China! It was fun to find out that the CEO of Allstate is an alumnus - who knew? (It was the Allstate Sugar Bowl)
