Elizabethtown

Last year going south we saw many dead deer by the side of the road.  This trip we didn't see one at all until we were almost to Indianapolis.  Indiana also has the honor of providing the first yucky bathrooms - messy, beat up, with no warm water!

We found Indianapolos traffic to be really heavy.  The exits were confusing.  Thank goodness for Nuvi.

We ate lunch at Roadhouse USA - fish and chips.  Great chips!  Later we had the same kind of great chips at Mulligan's in Stuart.  Unique chips.

On Our Way South to Auburn, Indiana

We're packed and prepared (we hope) and out the door headed for Florida.  It was a really uneventful trip today, except for the traffic in G.R., I'm told - because I slept through it!

First overnight stop - Auburn, Indiana.  Auburn is the home of the Cord Duesenburg Museum, and host of the annual Classic Car Show and Festival.  Auburn is known as "The Home of the Classics".

Our motel was slightly down at heel.  For instance, the towels were a little dingy.  It reminded me of the motel in the U.P. where there was a sign that said "Do not use the towels to polish your snowmobile".  Maybe some folks have used the Auburn towels to polish their "classics".

We found eleven caches around Auburn - they're almost all micros, and many are of the lamp post variety!

These finds are dated the 29th, but they were found on the 28th:

New Specs

Dick has now had both of his cataracts removed - we have two more weeks of eyedrops, and then we're done.  Today he had his final check-up, and everything is healing normally.

We ordered  fantastic new glasses for him - really nice looking.  They are supposed to be ready before we leave for Florida.  I hope, I hope!

A new geocaching goal is to find a cache on every calendar day, not necessarily all in the same year.  We've never found a cache on a November 19, so we searched for one called "Brace Yourself"  at an orthodontist's office (!).  The coordinates were a little off, but the Intrepid Cacher located it finally, under a bush.

It's a very mild day today for November -  Temp hovering around 50.  It's odd, though, because you can see portents of winter all around.  Bushes are burlapped, tied, and protected.   At the Eye Doctor's, huge wooden protectors are covering all of the plantings and the A.C.    The city flower beds have all been cleared out and smoothed over.  It's a funny feeling, sort of like waiting for the other shoe to drop!

Hawaii - Eat Your Heart Out

Beautiful Fall day in Northern Michigan!  It was a great day for a drive, so off we went over around Torch Lake.  What a lovely area!  We got the feeling that Michigan can compete with Maui for scenic beauty....well maybe?

Drove around T.C. too.  Clinch Park is full of deep deep ditches, huge piles of dirt, enough sand pile to make a dune, and enormous chunks of concrete.  It's very hard to visualize the end product.  I'm thinking that work will come to a screeching halt when the dirt piles freeze and become covered with ice and snow.

Happy Saturday

Gardner Goes Wild: Michigan Clips Hawkeyes for Perfect Home Record
11/17/2012 -
Devin Gardner totaled six TDs (3 rush, 3 pass) and 314 pass yards, Jeremy Gallon had 133 receiving yards and Denard Robinson rushed for 98 as No. 23 U-M completed the 6-0 home record with a 42-17 win over Iowa.

Hooray for our side :)

I caught cold some how.  It's just beginning to be annoying as only a cold can be.  I must have picked it up at the gym, or maybe from that check out girl at the grocery store who couldn't stop sneezing...

First Snow Day

Our snowy spirea bush

This is the deck early this morning.

It has snowed almost all day long. There was some rain at one point late in the afternoon, but the temp. was still only 35 degrees.

Dick had wanted to go super-caching with Tim & Susie today, but he called it off because he really doesn't feel all that well. We're not sure why. We're applying the eye drops religiously.

Today Michigan won nicely against Minnesota, and MSU lost to Nebraska in the last six seconds - always a very tough way to lose.

Jim, Emilie, Kris, Mike and Austen were all in Minneapolis today for the Michigan football game. Austen is now a freshman at that other U of M, and from all reports, she likes it very much.
