Historic Benzie

Beautiful caching day.

We ended up at Dilbert's (Interlochen) for lunch.  It was just fine - we would go there again.

We were over this way on another beautiful northern Michigan summer day to do the Historic Caches of Benzie County Challenge and drove back through Thompsonville on our way to lunch. Thanks Red Hat Grandma for another nice easy find. Signed log and replaced where we found it.

We were over to Honor today to do Rathergohiking's Earth Cache for our souvenir and decided to drop down to Thompsonville to get this one. We enjoyed the drive and the walk. We had never been on this trail before. Signed the log and left our card. Thanks Goldfinch for placing these Historic caches and giving us the motivation to relive the earlier times. It's both fun and sad to reread our logs and see the names of fellow cachers from back in the day. So many of them are no longer active.

The first of these historic caches we found was GC7AEF- Kiln You Dig It. On October Fifth, 2003 we had a great time two tracking and enjoying the fall colors. We found CG5B26 - L. A. Pathway on December 13, 2003. It was our first find in the snow back when we still enjoyed hiking in the snow. GCCB2C - The Pampered Cache was added to our list on another cold snowy day, February 15th in 2004. Both CGF955 - Underdeadwood, and GC5E7E - Animal, Vegetable, or Mineral were found on a rainy day, May 21, 2004. In June we did GC8557 - LooneyBin Two on the 14th. At that time it hadn't been found in a year. Instead of going by kayak, I hiked the muddy path from the campground and then huffed up the hill. I remember the workout. Later that month, on June 20th we found the last of the historic caches, GC92FE - GANDERGANG2 on our second annual Fathers Day outing.

We came over today to earn one of the August souvenirs. It's interesting how many public artesian wells have been capped or diverted. When we were young, there were three flowing in Traverse City. Thanks RGH for showing this one to us.

I remember the artesian well by Wilhem's when I was a kid on Union St.  Also, we've had a flowing well here at the river since the dawn of creation! Well, at least I think so...  :)
